Ditch Pricey Decor! Craft Adorable Flying Halloween Bats from Just a Hanger & Tights

Get ready to spookify your space this Halloween with an adorable, flying bat that’s not just charming but also incredibly easy on your wallet and the environment!

👉Forget expensive store-bought decor; we're diving into the world of upcycled Halloween crafts that transform everyday items into spooky delights. If you've got a spare wire hanger from the dry cleaner and a pair of old tights, you're halfway to crafting your very own DIY Halloween bat!

This clever project, inspired by a fantastic tutorial from "Good in the Simple" on YouTube, is perfect for adding a touch of Halloween magic both inside and outside your home. It’s a fantastic way to create budget-friendly Halloween decorations that still pack a spooky punch.

Craft Your Own Spooky Wire Hanger Bats!

What You'll Need:

  • An old wire hanger (the kind from the dry cleaner)
  • One leg of a pair of cheap kids' tights (microfiber, not thin nylons)
  • Optional: Pliers (to help bend the wire)
  • Stick-on eyes or googly eyes and glue (tacky glue works well)
  • Stretch Magic string (for hanging)

Let's Get Crafting!

Shape Your Bat Body: First, take your wire hanger and fold it down. Then, slide the top part underneath. Don't worry if it sticks out a bit; this actually helps create a cool three-dimensional effect for your bat!

Form the Head: Next, take the very top part of the hanger and bend it down to form your bat’s head. If you have pliers, they can make this step a bit easier, especially for bending in any sharp bits.

Wrap It Up: Now, for the bat’s "skin"! Take one leg of a pair of tights – the tutorial recommends thicker microfiber tights rather than thin nylons, as they won't work as well. Carefully slide the tight over your wire frame, making sure to avoid poking a hole with any protruding wire. Pull it snug but not overly tight, then tie a knot at the open end.

Conceal the Knot: Here’s a clever trick! Snip a small cut near the knot and tuck the excess fabric inside the tight. Because the tights are stretchy, the knot will totally disappear, leaving a clean finish.

Add Character: Your bat is almost complete! All it needs are eyes to bring it to life. Stick-on eyes are super convenient, but if you don’t have them, regular googly eyes and some tacky glue work perfectly.

Make it Fly! To hang your new creation, "Good in the Simple" suggests using "Stretch Magic" string, which is commonly found at craft stores and used for jewelry making. You can simply thread it through the top of the bat with your fingers; no needle needed unless you're using really thick tights.

And there you have it! A cute little bat ready to "fly" around your house or garden. This is truly one of the most fun and easy Halloween crafts you can make. The video (which you'll find linked below!) provides a visual guide, making the process even simpler.

So, gather your supplies, hit play on the video, and get ready to create some spooky Halloween decorations that everyone will love! Happy crafting and Happy Halloween!
